[Nothing could quiet get Estelle out of the house even on a miserably day like today better than food. She'd blame the cold, really. Weather like this made her crave something sweet, soft and warm, something that melted in your mouth.... Maybe something that'd go good with a warm drink.
Clearly, a trip to a bakery was on the menu for today, and she'd left a little note stuck to the kitchen table for Joshua to tell him where she'd gone, promising a treat when she returned.
So he's probably expecting the bakery box in her hands when she returns, grinning widely. He's probably even expecting her good cheer and flushed cheeks, as if she'd hurried her way back. What Joshua probably isn't expecting is the sweater she's wearing to be one of his own.]
[The chilly weather certainly took Joshua by surprise. Perhaps just a small cold streak that would hit before it'd warm up again, at least that's what he predicts. Luckily, he had gone clothes shopping to be prepared for the cooler weather that he did expect to come up. With warm slacks and a few polos, dress shirts, cardigans and sweaters, Joshua figures he's pretty set. Even a few outfits that were good for any Bracer like work that may come up where he needs to move easily in and isn't afraid to get it dirty or won't miss it if it ends up damaged.
Though when getting dressed for the day, he does notice one of his sweaters is missing. He doesn't recall wearing it -- though it makes him wonder if he really did buy it. He liked it, he remembers. He even recalls hanging it up, yet now he's questioning his sanity. Perhaps Estelle knows where it is, that is something he'll ask her when she gets back from her little errand.
Yet once she returns with that box in hand, his question is immediately answered.]
That's my sweater...
[So he's not insane. He heaves a sigh realizing perhaps she never had time to go shopping for warm clothes herself.]
[She at least has the good grace to look a little sheepish at being called out on her little theft. She's got a pair of rather telling capris on, one of the warmest pairs she owns, but it's clear from the sweater alone that Joshua's assessment is correct. She'd been planning to get to it, just....]
Eheheh... the cold weather took me by surprise, you know? All of a sudden it seems like the whole island's rushing headlong towards winter overnight.
[She looks quite warm in it, at least. It's not a hugely obvious size difference, but it hangs longer on her in the torso and arms than it might have on Joshua, aside from the obvious chest differences. It was actually pretty cosy in Estelle's opinion, the longer length just adding to that feeling.] It's a really nice sweater, by the way.
[As if Joshua didn't already know that, whoops...... She offers up the box as if it's a peace offering, grin returning.] And these are really nice too! At least they smell good.
[Something smelled like apples and cinnamon, at least....]
[You know, there's something nice about the fact that she's seemingly okay from taking clothes from his closet to wear. It definitely would have never happened before and she would have just battled the cold if she didn't have the winter wear she needed before they'd take a family trip into town.
Though she does seem to be pretty comfortable in that sweater -- then again, like she said, it is a nice sweater.]
It is, isn't it? We'll have to go into town to get you some sweaters for you, then.
[She can't be comfortable all the time wearing a men's sweater. So for now, he does let it go and etches that plan into mind before he opens up the box she's holding and takes out a single pastry.]
Though I will be taking one of these as payment. [He's joking, considering she bought enough for both of them.]
I'll make some cider, too. I think that will go good with these. [He smiles before taking a bite into the pastry and turning to go into the kitchen to start making that cider. It won't be long before it's ready.]
Yeah! Maybe some more pants and leggings, a jacket too... everything I have is a little on the thin side. Though you've got great taste in clothes, I probably shouldn't keep borrowing them forever.
[Practical as always. She'd picked up a task that'd definitely be putting her out in the rain when she started, so she'd probably want something warmer.
....Wait 'keep borrowing them'? How long has she been doing this?
She beams happily when Joshua opens the box, and practically starts sparkling when he mentions cider, following him into the kitchen to set the box down on the table.]
You shouldn't be borrowing them at all. We should get you some sweaters, too, if you're that comfortable with them.
[He does like his own taste in clothes, so he is happy to hear that she likes them. Though honestly, he didn't think she'd like them so much she'd wear them. At least it will make it easy when they do go out clothes shopping for winter clothes.
Though he's more focused on making the cider right now, boiling the water then mixing it into the cider mix in the mugs.]
For now, let's just eat those pastries. They're pretty good. [He has his half eaten pastry on a saucer, so he takes that and the two mugs to the coffee table.]
[At least she's admitting fault, even if she doesn't seem that regretful of her choice. It wasn't like she'd taken all his clothes and hoarded them or something, she put them on the coat rack....!
Noooot really a very good excuse. She snags two pastries from the box, stacking them on on top of the other on a saucer herself before making her way over to the couch next to the coffee table, flopping down into it's cushions before taking a bite of pastry with a happy hum.]
Mmmmm... On a day like today, something like this is just great, you know?
It would have been nice to know you were taking them at least. I don't have enough clothes for two people.
[Well, he does, but it'd mean doing laundry pretty often. Thankfully it's just his sweaters and not anything else. Then he'd be really concerned. But it's not his main focus right now as he sits on the couch next to her with his saucer in hand. He's pretty amazed she didn't bring the whole box over.
Still, it's nice to just settle down like this. They've had downtime before, but every time they do, he does cherish it. He cherishes all the time they can spend together like this.]
Though you're right. This is perfect for today. I didn't think winter would come so soon, but this is the one nice thing about it -- these foods are perfect.
[Well she'll go back for seconds.... and probably thirds later, no doubt about that. For now though, she's happily chewing away at her second rather large bite before picking up her cup of cider to wash it down with it swig and a sigh. If there's one thing to be said for her fondness of food, it was that she wasn't sedate about it... at all.]
Kind of makes you wonder what's going on, you know? I've heard people talking, and some people think this isn't really normal. Something's going on with that big crystal, apparently.
I wouldn't be surprised. The climate of this place probably relies on the well-being on that crystal. Perhaps too many negative emotions happened.
[At least it'd make sense if that was the case given how things in Verens work. Joshua's silent for a moment, taking a small bite of his half-eaten pastry before picking up the mug and sipping the cider. He's actually taking the time to enjoy the taste before taking another sip. Though it is nice to be doing something so mundane while sitting next to Estelle like this, like it's normal.]
Until we get more conclusive information, we probably should just do things that may help bring and create a more positive environment. With you around, I know I can help.
[Yep, he's saying that with a smile and a straight face.]
[Estelle can't hide the happy little smile that comes to her lips, nor can she hide the slight flushing of her cheeks that hearing his words brings. Not that she would. It seemed like no matter how used to this she got, it still sent a happy flood of warmth through her to hear things like that.
She leans back against the couch, leaning up against Joshua's shoulder and side with that irrepressible smile still on her lips, tilting her head slightly to meet his eyes.]
Same goes for you, you know. I'm pretty much always happy when you're around.
[Joshua can feel Estelle's weight against him and he honestly can't help but smile a bit wider himself. It just makes him happy to know she's completely comfortable with him like this and that he doesn't even have to question it. There's something to be said that he's more than confident that she'll never leave his side.
And that he somehow makes her happy, too. Again, something he won't question at all. They've been together for so long, he understands. He even said it once that they practically complete each other's sentences and can read each other's thoughts so well. Even if he meant that as partners, and they still are partners, it's a nice attribute to have in their relationship.]
I know you are and I'm glad for that. [He rests his cheek against her head, nuzzling her just a bit.]
[He'd always made her happy, really, and there's never been a question in Estelle's heart about that. Sure, there were times she'd been sad, but those were because of how much Joshua meant to her, not because of otherwise. It was because of that moments like these were so precious and comfortable.
And right now he was very, very warm, so Estelle felt no shame in snuggling a little closer, returning that little nuzzle with one of her own to his chin.]
Hmmmm, you're really warm you know?
[And she's still feeling kind of chilly, fresh from being outside.]
[It had been snowing today. Estelle had been out and about earlier, but by the time the sun started to fall in the sky, she'd made her way back to the apartment rather quickly to avoid the further growing chill. She'd dressed in layers, and with her jacket removed it's plenty obvious.... she's been out in one of Joshua's sweaters.
Again.
She flops down on the couch next to him, curling up against his side almost immediately with a happy sigh.] Aaaah, you're warm!
[It's not even a surprise anymore to see her in his sweaters. If anything, it's endearing, even if it means his pick of wardrobe dwindles very quickly until laundry day happens. He knows she has her own wardrobe, but... no, he probably knows why she's doing it. Especially since he's pretty certain she has a few tunics that wear similar to his own sweaters.
But cuddling is definitely something Joshua's not against. He's been able to read between the lines and understand what she wants without her explicitly asking for it anymore. So when she plops down right next to him, he wraps both of his arms around her and pulls her close to him. Ah yeah, she was outside and he can feel the chill through his own clothes.]
Yeah, and you're freezing.
[And Joshua being well prepared already has hot chocolate on the coffee table. It's easy to tell which ones his and which ones hers. His is just a small plain mug, a few marshmallows and a bit of whipped cream. Estelle's is a larger mug, with some cute designs on it. Probably the same amount of hot chocolate, but loaded with marshmallows and there's definitely a small mountain of whipped cream on there. He also added sprinkles.
[Wearing Joshua's sweaters was kind of like a portable hug, though she'd have a hard time explaining it properly if asked. She just liked it, ok?
But she liked cuddling up with him even more, so when he pulls her close she snuggles up to him with another happy little hum.] But you'll keep me warm, won't you ♪
[Aaaand then she spots the hot chocolate, and yep, Joshua's now got an armful of sparkles. Hilariously squirmy sparkles, because she's carefully reaching for the mug of hot chocolate even while trying to continue her clinging and warmth leeching.] Hot chocolate?! Aaah, you really are the best you know?
[Somewhere amid the acrobatic clingfest that would put an octopus to shame, she does manage to get her fingers slipped around the mug to pull it close, inhaling the scent of chocolate and whipped cream.]
I can, but I figured something warm to drink would help, too.
[He's happy to see how delighted she is by this, and he also has to admit he kind of liked that he was on the same level of hot chocolate in that she refused to let him go just to get it. Even if it would have been easier to do that.]
I'm glad you appreciate it.
[His hand is definitely caressing her back while he's watching her. She really does bring him so much joy just by being herself.]
[She grins over the rim of the mug, snuggling closer, because really this was the best of both worlds right now. A good warm drink and a nice warm Joshua. He really was spoiling her today. She takes another deep breath of the scent of chocolate, blowing on it and waiting for it to cool a little..... and getting a bit of whipped cream on her nose.
Typical Estelle.]
It's not as cold as it could be, but once snow starts falling it cools down really quick outside. I think you might have the right idea about staying indoors more.
[She says that, but as restless as Estelle could be.....]
[Less spoiling her and more giving her what she definitely deserves.
When she takes a drink and that whipped cream ends up on her nose, Joshua takes no time at all to lean in and kiss her nose, subtly licking the whipped cream off of it.]
Well, indoors more, but I doubt that will stop you from going outside. You've never been one to stay inside all day.
[He chuckles a bit at that one. Sorry, Estelle, he doesn't believe that could happen.]
How about you just leave the indoor chores to me, that way if we need errands run, you can do those. Does that sound good? Of course, we could always do those together, too.
[Of course there are... well... naturally other things that come to mind, but right now, Joshua chooses to keep those to himself. Especially things they could do... well... together.]
[She takes a sip of her cocoa, considering his words and nodding.] We could do that, yeah. And we could always do stuff together at home, too. I bet I'd read a lot more if it was with you ♪
[Curled up together, reading.... yeah, that sounded kind of nice.]
[His tone is joking, but there's also a definite tone of fondness in there. He wouldn't mind her falling asleep against him at all, especially since books are entertaining to him and having Estelle there would be a huge bonus to him.]
However, you know that if you're with me that's enough for me, right?
[One hand is still caressing her back while the other goes to cup her cheek, then tuck her hair behind her ear.]
[He wouldn't consider it a bad thing if she lost her focus because of him. Slowly, he's been accepting how nice it is he has this kind of affect on her. And how much she's been having an effect on him. She always had, but it's... different now and definitely not a bad thing.]
I wouldn't mind it so much either. Especially if I had a book since any company I would have had would have dozed off.
